I have just relocated from the Toronto to Idaho to begin a tenure-track position at Boise State University. I’m really excited about it, and for a lot of reasons!
For one thing, I’ll be resuming my career as an instructor. Teaching is something I really enjoy, and it has been more than two years since I have been able to do it. I may also have the opportunity to advise students. And overall I can look forward to a much more well-rounded academic life than I’ve become used to.
I’m also very happy about the city of Boise. Though it is small, it seems to have plenty to offer in the way of liveability. It also boasts mild weather and attractive ambiance—you can see mountains from almost any point in the city. I can’t wait to go for a bike ride!
Lastly, as you can probably tell from my banner, I’m excited for the football games. Many of my colleagues think it’s silly, and I don’t deny that the FBS has negative effects on the academic world. But that aside, Boise has a nationally recognized football program with a very special history.
So cheers, from BSU.

Great! Glad to hear your move went well! Good luck and enjoy Boise!
Congrats! So much changing, I have to write my own post, too…
Thanks so much, both of you!
Welcome to Boise State! It was nice to meet you and I hope you enjoy it here. I was pleasantly surprised when I chose BSU a few years ago. There are a lot of interesting places to discover, especially downtown, and I would be happy to recommend a few of my favorites.
This is a really late reply, so you probably won’t see it, but:
Thanks! I do really need to check out more places downtown. Especially looking for a place to watch the game.
By the way, I’ve started going to tree city and that place is great!
