My name is Sam. I’m now in my ideal career—teaching math for a living! For fun I enjoy playing leisure sports like frisbee, volleyball, and road cycling. I also enjoy board games.

Math really drew me in because it makes me feel safe. Here’s what I mean: it’s the only area where you can define and understand something entirely from the ground up. Of course things will get very complex, but every piece of the puzzle can be understood completely. In other fields, like say physics, established theories are always getting replaced by more intricate ones. Things are even muddier in the humanities. But in math, nobody will ever replace the basics like the natural numbers, or the circle.

Hi, my name is Jonathan and I’m an alco …. wait a minute… this isn’t AA! So um, yeah, this class is probably going to be extremely boring for me and if you find me snoring- just slap me. As much as I love the fact that 2 + 2 will always =4, I’m okay just knowing that. Having to know how to prove why that will always be- does not interest me, but I’ll live. So anyways, I like skiing snowboarding wakeboarding cycling and mt biking. My favorite quote is “Hold everything! What I am I doing here? Mr. Bialystock was right! There is a lot more to me than there is to me! Stop the world, I wanna get on!” from The Producers and “Well honk my hooter!” from Better Off Dead.
I’m all for study groups! If you want to join a study group, email me at jonathanwyble@u.boisestate.edu.

My name is Josh, currently I am perusing a computer science major. I enjoy playing dayZ with friends (zombi survival game). I enjoy math because there is nothing left to imagination, there are rules and those rules determine how and why things happen.

Hi, my name is Rachael. I’m majoring in Mathematics Education and I am working towards becoming a high school math teacher. Eventually I’d also like to go to graduate school and study different conceptions of mathematical concepts at varying levels of education. For fun I like to ride my bike, doodle, and read. One thing I find incredibly beautiful and poetic about mathematics is that we use it to decode the universe. It’s a medium through which we understand other subjects.

Hellooooo! I’m Annie Blake and I am majoring in mathematics and maybe minoring in accounting. I like to run, ride bikes, and anything active. I love math! I may not be perfect at it, but for me it is much easier to under than english because math is one way. There isn’t seven different answers to one problems, there may be seven different ways to get there, but in the end everyone should have the same answer.

I am studying to become a mathematics major and hopefully become an actuary. I love to play ultimate frisbee and other sports on the weekends. And my favorite quote from math would have to be, “A mathematician is a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat which isn’t there.”

Math is the nature of the universe, or it is how the universe exists, I think, haven’t got a full proof of that one, but you can see the connections, imagine a puzzle and placing the last piece into place and what is the puzzle of when you are finished, ? a great big question mark???

Hi, my name is Ayaka. I enjoy my career in the field of statistics, and I am currently picking up a few prerequisites to pursue a Master’s degree in Mathematics. I also enjoy leisure sports and cooking. One remark about math is that the more I learn, the more I realize that I need to learn more.

In my “spare time”, I love Mtn Biking (X-country) and chasing my 2 kids around. (Boys ages 5 & 9).
I have a love/hate relationship with math. It’s one of my favorite subjects but has also been my biggest challenge. I am looking forward to this class.

Hey, folks. My name is Jason Allen. Like many others here, I am a Computer Science major. I’m pretty big on movies, books, and college football.

I enjoy math in more of a “Hey, that’s kind of neat” way, as opposed to it being a true passion. It can successfully pique my curiosity, but sometimes I can kind of check out when the going gets tough. Fortunately, my study habits are getting much better. Looking forward to the semester.

My name is Alyssa and I am an English and Math Education Major. So, I’d like to teach English and Math in secondary schools in the future.

I like to write and travel for fun.
A remark about Math I would like to make is that Math doesn’t need words to operate (except proofs). Its a language of its own, which is very unique.

  17. Mario Venegas

    My name’s Mario,

I am a major in Sociology with a minor in Mathematics. I deal with both the abstract/precise and the ambiguous aspects of reality. Meaning social reality like political institutions as well as abstract as in numbers and mathematical concepts.

I enjoy time traveling, in other words learning about history. I also enjoy memes and video games.

Math is a rather interesting field for me. It has been both challenging to the point that I flip desks but also pleasurable to the point I feel self-flagellant about it. I look forward to this class, it should be fun and memorable.

For fun I like to spend time with my family (wife and two daughters ages 6 and 9), read , and watch football.

A quote I once heard nicely sums my feelings for math:

“Mathematics is like love; a simple idea, but it can get complicated.”

Hi my name is Justin. I am a Secondary Math Education Major, and hope to someday teach either high school or middle school math. For fun I like to play just about any sport, or board game.

Math has always been something that has interested me. My main focus in my career will be the teaching aspect of things, but being able to teach math makes this career kind of a double bonus for me. I enjoy a challenge and that is something that math never fails to produce.

Hello, my name is Sam Free, and I am working on my Computer Science degree. I have completed an Associate at CWI and am now working as a Systems Specialist. In this attempt, I plan to develop my career into software solutions. I enjoy staying active and taking advantage of not only the local events in our area, but also activities in the outdoors. It has been awhile since I’ve been able to study math and am excited to start training myself in logical mathematics. Other than that I enjoy math and the ability to explain so much in life with a precise definition.

My name is William Gale, I go by Tad which is my middle name. My major is Computer Science, seems like there is a lot of us in this class. Posted August 29, 2012 at 12:17 am | Permalink

    My name is Shane Pruett
I am also majoring in Computer Science
I spend almost all my leisure time on the computer browsing interesting content and playing computer games, most recently Minecraft (A popular indie sandbox game), DayZ (The zombie survival game, as mentioned earlier, though all i do is hoard food and avoid confronting other survivors), and games like Team Fortress and Counter Strike (which I’m terrible at but still play).
Math has always been really easy for me because of the definite logic and reasoning that governs it, but I still struggle spending time studying and doing homework for Math as its ease gives me a false sense of comfort in putting it off to the last minute.

For fun I like to travel, surf the internet and eat exotic foods. I enjoy math because it is straightforward. However, I feel that it takes too much time to complete; nevertheless, I realize that if I want a lucrative career a lot of math will, most likely, be involved.
